Audi has revealed the first European example of the Volkswagen Group's new parallel plug-in hybrid system in its Audi A3 e-tron model, which goes on sale this year and will make its debut at the 2013 Geneva motor show on March 5. This plug-in version of Audi's popular family hatchback uses a 148bhp/184lb ft, 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol Audi engine and a 75kW/243lb ft Volkswagen manufactured electric motor. This combination gives the A3 e-tron a top speed of 138mph, 0-62mph acceleration in 7.6sec, and an EU Combined fuel consumption figure of 188.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 35g/km. The plug-in hybrid driveline has been specially built to work with VW's MQB platform. Total system power is 201bhp, torque is 258lb ft and maximum range is 31 miles using battery power alone and 416 miles using petrol and battery power.
